Medicare Advantage plans

About 20% of Vermont Medicare enrollees also have Medicare Advantage plans (Medicare Part C). The number of Medicare Advantage plans available nationwide has increased in recent years to 3,834. In Chittenden County, beneficiaries choose from an average of 17 possible Burlington, Vermont, Medicare Advantage plans.

Original Medicare enrollees can choose from several insurance providers to find their Plan C policy. UnitedHealthcare and MVP Health offer the most affordable PPO and HMO plans.

UnitedHealthcare offers two affordable plans. The first is an HMO plan with a $6,700 deductible and a four-star Medicare star rating. All Medicare Advantage plans don’t include premiums, so enrollees don’t make monthly payments.

Medicare Supplement plans

Medicare Supplement plans, or Medigap plans, offer standalone insurance policies with benefits not covered by Medicare Part A and Part B. Plans G and F also offer high-deductible versions (HDG and HDF) with low $42 premiums. Plan F coverage isn’t available to Medicare beneficiaries who became eligible after January 1, 2020.

Medicare Part D prescription drug plans

Medicare Part D offers another standalone insurance policy that covers the cost of prescription drugs. Part D categorizes medications using a tier system with higher prices for higher-tier drugs. Insurance providers Aetna, Wellcare, and UnitedHealthcare offer affordable Burlington, Vermont, Medicare Part D plans.

With a low premium of only $7, Aetna’s $480 deductible plan provides a budget-friendly option for Medicare enrollees. Aetna’s plan receives a three-star rating, which measures the plan’s performance and beneficiary satisfaction.
