Meridian, Idaho, Medicare beneficiaries have three primary ways to expand their Original Medicare coverage: Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Supplement plans, and Medicare Part D plans.

Each option offers unique coverage not included in baseline Medicare, and we’ll discuss some of the most popular Meridian policies and providers below.

Medicare plans in Meridian, Idaho

Like Meridian, Idaho Original Medicare, supplemental Medicare plans — also called Medigap — cover health expenses you would otherwise have to pay out-of-pocket to receive.

The significant difference between supplemental Medicare and Original Medicare, other than coverage, is that supplemental plans don’t have price standardization.

Medicare Advantage plans

44 Medicare Advantage plans are available in Meridian, Idaho, tied for the most MA options of any city in Idaho. That wide selection includes several highly-rated, low-cost policies that all boost the effectiveness of Original Medicare.

Medigold’s Meridian, Idaho, Medicare Advantage plan has a $0 premium and the city’s lowest maximum out-of-pocket (MOOP) rates at $3,900. This plan is an HMO. Note, however, that it does not include Part D coverage.

Regence offers one of Meridian’s few Local PPO Medicare Advantage plans. It has a $0 premium, a $5,500 MOOP, and a four-star coverage effectiveness rating. It offers $0 copays for most in-network services.

Humana’s Medicare Advantage plan also has a four-star rating, a $5,550 MOOP, and a $0 premium. However, unlike Regence’s Local PPO option, it’s an HMO plan. In addition, generic medications often cost only $1 to $4 with this plan.

Medicare Supplement plans

Medicare Supplement plans reduce overall healthcare costs by covering common inpatient and outpatient services not included in Original Medicare. Medicare Part D prescription drug plans

Medicare Part D plans offer Meridian, Idaho, Medicare beneficiaries prescription drug coverage for most forms of medication. Part D coverage stands out since no Medicare Supplement plans and only a handful of Medicare Advantage plans cover prescription drug costs.

Aetna’s $6.90 premium Part D plan has the lowest monthly rates of all Meridian Part D options. It also has a $480 deductible and a three-star rating. Many drugs cost you only $1 for a 30-day supply under this plan.

Humana’s Part D plan also has a $480 deductible and a higher premium than Aetna’s policy at $22.70. However, its four-star coverage is one of Meridian’s highest-rated. It offers access to many common pharmacies around the state of Idaho.

UnitedHealthcare’s Part D coverage has a $29.40 premium, but its $310 deductible is the lowest for any Part D plan in Meridian. This plan also has a four-star rating. It also offers $0 copays on most Tier 1 drugs.

Medicare Special Needs plans

Medicare Special Needs Plans (SNPs) are a specialized subset of Medicare Advantage with coverage for people with unique medical needs and chronic disabilities. SNPs aren’t as widely available as standard Medicare Advantage, but a handful of Meridian, Idaho, and Medicare providers with SNP options exist.

Molina Healthcare has two SNPs available for Meridian, Idaho, residents. One is a $0 premium option with a higher $7,550 MOOP, while the other has a $42.90 premium and a much lower $2,000 MOOP. Both have dual eligibility.

Blue Cross of Idaho has a well-regarded SNP with a $0 premium and a $3,000 MOOP. This plan also has dual eligibility. Additionally, this plan is also an HMO.

American Health’s SNP is the only option in Meridian with institutional eligibility. It also has a $42.90 premium and $7,550 MOOP. For those in nursing homes, it offers a great option to enhance the care they receive.
